You are completely correct in reminding us that poverty is still a large problem around the world. I am not insensitive to the hardship still prevalent in this world of plentiful resources. I think it is the responsibility of all people to contribute to the well being of their fellow citizens, that is one of the tenets of a JetSetCitizen. For the sake of brevity, I do not clarify that.

money is not a barrier… for people fortunate enough to be living in a well developed and affluent society.

The audience of this, or any blog for that matter, are likely to be in richer countries, so my message was meant for them. I am not ignoring the poor, however your point does remind us of the haves and have-nots of the world.

While I agree that this is certainly true of first world nations and many people in developing countries, it shouldn’t be forgotten that 1.4 billion people around the world still live in poverty. Poverty being defined as having an income of less than $1.25 per day! The number of people living within this definition has decreased by 20-something % in the last decade, largely due to the increase in wealth in China but many of those people have moved only just above subsistence level, so the figures are misleading.

In short, for at least 1/3 of the world’s population, money is very much a barrier, and the tools for entrepreneurial success are far from free…
