Great interview John. I didn’t realize you had also posted an interview with Elizabeth until the day I posted mine. I’m glad that they are different and that we both seem to be on the same page. Elizabeth is definitely someone who inspires passion and creativity. Thanks for sharing.

@Mike CJ – Happy to meet another HK aficionado. Looking forward to staying in touch via Twitter.

@Oscar – you’re right: Sicily is very different from Tuscany. The north-south divide in Italy is even greater than in the US and UK. Anyone from Rome and northwards think that Sicily is much too southern & wild for their tastes. Sicily has begun to shed its rough image and has some key attributes that show it’s primed to grow. Artists are always on the lookout for places like this; we invest our time and then the rest of the world follows, gentrifies it, and increases the price significantly.

@Colin – I’m definitely not looking for handouts, but am always on the lookout for markets for my work!

@Kristin – When people hear I’m an artist, they often ask: “Do you do art full-time?” When I say “yes” they look at my work with new eyes. But I am just as committed to it now as I was when I worked day-jobs.

Just poked around through her work and blog as well: beautifully captivating photos! What she says about making art an integral part of her life, regardless of where she lived and what her day jobs entailed, is so important. Allowing your life to feed into that kind of passion and talent, despite what may seem a to be disparity, only enhances your work, allows you to stay connected to your work, and inevitably separates you from others out there in the same field.

Really, really cool story. Great to hear about an artist who isn’t taking the ’starving artist’ route and instead is harnessing that creativity to come up with interesting business ventures.
